Privacy Policy for Modern Word

Effective Date: March 23, 2026

Gee Bee Software LLC ("we," "us," or "our") operates Modern Word, a mobile application built with React Native and Expo, powered by Firebase, RevenueCat for subscriptions, and AppsFlyer for install attribution. Modern Word uses AI to answer any question with Biblically sound, scripturally based responses, allowing users to select specific Bible translations, track spiritual milestones like the prayer of salvation, and record personal journal entries.

We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use Modern Word ("App"). By using the App, you consent to these practices. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following information to provide, improve, and personalize Modern Word:

Personal Information

  • Account Details: Your name and email address, provided during registration or login.

  • Authentication Data: If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name and email address (or a private relay email, in Apple's case) from the respective identity provider. We do not receive or store your Apple ID or Google account password.

  • Spiritual Preferences: Your selected Bible translations for verse references.

  • Milestone Data: The date you submit the prayer of salvation (if shared).

  • Interaction Data: Questions or chat messages sent to the AI, your ratings of AI response quality, and the number of xAI tokens used per request (for usage tracking and improvement).

  • Journal Entries: Personal reflections or notes you enter in the App’s journaling feature.

  • Notification Preferences: Your push notification settings, including which notification types you have enabled (daily verse, streak reminders, inactivity nudges, study continuation) and your preferred delivery time.

Subscription and Payment Information

  • RevenueCat Data: Customer information (e.g., subscription status, purchase history) and events (e.g., subscription starts, renewals, cancellations) processed via RevenueCat for in-app purchases.

  • We do not collect sensitive financial details like credit card numbers—RevenueCat handles secure payment processing.

Automatically Collected Information

  • Usage Data: App interactions (e.g., session duration, features used) via Firebase Analytics to monitor performance and improve user experience.

  • Device Information: Device type, operating system version, platform (iOS or Android), and unique identifiers (e.g., via Expo) for debugging and compatibility.

  • Push Notification Tokens: If you enable push notifications, we collect your Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) device token and a locally generated device identifier to deliver notifications to your device. We also collect your device timezone to schedule notifications at your preferred time.

  • Install Attribution Data: On first launch, we use AppsFlyer to determine how you found and installed Modern Word (e.g., which ad campaign, search term, or referral source led to your install). This data includes campaign source, medium, campaign name, and related marketing parameters. For organic installs (not from a paid campaign), no attribution data is recorded.

  • Advertising Identifier (iOS only): On iOS, we may request your permission via Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework to access your device's Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA). This is used solely for install attribution — understanding which marketing efforts led to your install. You can deny this request with no impact on app functionality.

2. Analytics and Usage Data

We use Google Firebase Analytics to collect anonymized data to understand how users interact with Modern Word and to improve its functionality.

Events Tracked

We track high-level categories of user interactions, including:

  • App launches and session durations.

  • Feature usage (e.g., journal entries, AI chat interactions, prayer submissions).

  • Subscription events (e.g., starts, renewals, cancellations).

  • AI response ratings and token usage metrics.

  • Notification interactions (e.g., taps on push notifications, notification type, whether the app was opened from a cold or warm state).

Data Retention

Analytics data collected via Firebase Analytics is retained for a default period of 14 months, after which it is automatically deleted unless otherwise required for legal or operational purposes.

Opt-Out Instructions

You can opt out of analytics data collection by disabling analytics in the App’s settings menu. Instructions are available under “Privacy Settings” in the App.

Third-Party Service

We use Google Firebase Analytics, a third-party service, to process and analyze usage data. Firebase adheres to strict data protection standards, as outlined in their privacy policy. We also use AppsFlyer, a mobile attribution platform, to measure install attribution and campaign performance. AppsFlyer processes attribution data in accordance with its privacy policy, available at https://www.appsflyer.com/legal/privacy-policy/. Attribution data is captured once at first launch and is not used for ongoing behavioral tracking.

3. How We Collect Information

  • Directly from You: When you register, submit questions/prayers, rate responses, enter journal entries, or manage subscriptions.

  • From Third Parties:

    • xAI API: Processes chat content and tracks token usage for generating Biblical responses.

    • Firebase (Google): Provides backend storage, analytics, crash reporting, authentication, and push notification delivery via Firebase Cloud Messaging.

    • RevenueCat: Manages subscription events and customer IDs.

    • AppsFlyer: Captures install attribution data (campaign source, medium, and related parameters) on first app launch to measure marketing effectiveness.

    • Apple / Google Sign-In: If you choose to sign in with Apple or Google, we receive basic profile information (name and email) from the respective identity provider.

  • Automatically: Via Firebase Analytics, Firebase Cloud Messaging, AppsFlyer, Expo SDKs, or server logs collecting usage, device, attribution, and notification data.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Deliver core features: Generate AI responses with selected Bible translations, track salvation prayer dates, store and display your journal entries, manage subscriptions, and deliver push notifications based on your preferences (e.g., daily verses, streak reminders, study continuation prompts).

  • Improve Modern Word: Analyze chat patterns, response ratings, token usage, and journal entry trends (anonymized) to enhance AI accuracy and app functionality.

  • Communicate: Send subscription confirmations, updates, or support responses via email.

  • Personalize: Tailor Biblical advice based on your translation preferences, interaction history, or journal content (if applicable).

  • Monitor and protect: Detect fraud, ensure security, or comply with legal obligations.

  • Marketing (with consent): Send occasional emails about new features (opt out anytime via email settings).

  • Measure marketing effectiveness: Use install attribution data from AppsFlyer to understand which campaigns and channels bring users to Modern Word. This data helps us allocate marketing resources responsibly and is not used to build individual advertising profiles.

We do not sell your personal information.

5. How We Share Your Information

We share information only as necessary:

  • Service Providers: With xAI (for AI processing, see xAI Privacy Policy), Firebase (for storage, analytics, authentication, and push notification delivery), RevenueCat (for subscriptions), and AppsFlyer (for install attribution). These providers are contractually obligated to protect your data. Journal entries are stored in Firebase but not shared with xAI unless explicitly used in AI prompts. If you sign in with Apple or Google, basic profile information is received from the respective provider during authentication.

  • Legal Requirements: If required by law, subpoena, or to protect our rights, safety, or property.

  • Business Transfers: In case of merger, acquisition, or asset sale, with notice to you.

We do not share data with advertisers or unrelated third parties. Data processed in the US (via Firebase/xAI) may involve international transfers—see Section 8.

6. Data Security

We implement industry-standard measures:

  • Encryption for data in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest (Firebase security rules), including journal entries.

  • Access controls to limit data exposure (e.g., role-based permissions).

  • Regular security audits and Expo’s secure build tools.

No system is 100% secure, but we strive to protect against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. Report concerns to support@geebeesoftware.com.

7. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location (e.g., GDPR for EU/UK users, CCPA for California residents):

  • Access, Update, or Delete: Request your data, including journal entries, or account deletion by emailing support@geebeesoftware.com. We’ll respond within 30 days.

  • Opt-Out: Unsubscribe from marketing emails or disable analytics in App settings.

  • Push Notifications: You can enable or disable push notifications at any time through the App's notification settings screen, or through your device's operating system settings. Disabling notifications does not affect any other App functionality. You may also customize which types of notifications you receive (daily verse, streak reminders, inactivity nudges, study continuation) and your preferred delivery time.

  • App Tracking (iOS): If you previously granted App Tracking Transparency permission, you can revoke it at any time in your device's Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.

  • Do Not Sell/Share: We do not sell data; opt out of analytics sharing via settings.

  • Withdraw Consent: For any consent-based processing (e.g., marketing).

You may request deletion of your account or specific data (e.g., chats, journal entries, prayer dates) by emailing support@geebeesoftware.com. Subscription data is retained as required by RevenueCat (typically 7 years for tax purposes). Modern Word may link to external sites (e.g., Bible translation sources, xAI documentation). We are not responsible for their privacy practices—please review their policies.
